Home to around 700 Greater One-horned Rhinoceroses, Chitwan National Park is one of the best places in the world to observe these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.
Rhino sightings are possible throughout the year, but where you find them depends on the season. During the hot summer months, when temperatures in Chitwan often exceed 38°C (100°F), rhinos spend much of their time cooling off in rivers, lakes, and muddy waterholes. This is the perfect time to watch them bathing, wallowing, and relaxing in the water before returning to the grasslands and forests to feed.
Every season offers a unique wildlife experience, but summer provides some of the best opportunities to witness these gentle giants enjoying the water in their natural home.
